PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to Resize an Image for an Online Form

Online forms often specify a maximum width, height, or both. The safest approach is to match the required pixel dimensions while preserving the original proportions unless the form explicitly requires a fixed crop.

Check the form requirements

Look for instructions such as 200 × 230 pixels, a maximum file size, or an accepted format such as JPG. Pixel dimensions and file size are different requirements.

Keep the aspect ratio

If only one dimension is specified, keep the original aspect ratio. This prevents faces, signatures and other content from looking stretched.

Resize before compressing

If the original camera image is very large, reduce its dimensions first. Then compress the resized image if the form also imposes a KB limit.

Use FormWise

Open the Image Resizer, select the image, enter the required dimensions and download the result. For a KB limit, follow it with the Image Compressor.

Check the final file

Open the downloaded file and confirm its dimensions, format and approximate file size before uploading it to the destination form.
